2012 activity report

The Centre national des arts plastiques has published its 2012 Activity Report. This document shows the diversity and wealth of the CNAP’s initiatives while showcasing certain ambitious projects it has implemented, such as several exhibitions in France and abroad, expansion of the French State collection, its promotion over all territories, and the development of programmes to support artistic creative work.

In 2012, the report’s graphic design was entrusted to The Shelf Company (Morgane Rébulard and Colin Caradec).

They have created a restrained layout with very strong typographical choices (Johnston and Choc), harmoniously integrating figurative and narrative data visualisations into the document, with the images remaining central.

SUPPORTING CONTEMPORARY ARTISTIC CREATION
The CNAP continued in its mission to support artistic creation by allocating an overall budget of over 930,000 euros to that endeavor. It thus supported more than 238 projects by artists, publishers, galleries, photographers, art restorers and producers in the audiovisual sector.  In addition, it has implemented a new programme to support the creation of artworks, to respond even more efficiently to artist and gallery funding requests.

COLLECTION LOANS AND EXHIBITIONS
In 2012, the CNAP granted 1,059 short-term loans of works to 179 partners, and 339 new long-term loans in France and abroad.

Regarding promotion of the CNAP collection, three important events should be highlighted. The exhibitions Explorateurs in Les Sables d’Olonne and Número tres in Barcelona demonstrated the CNAP’s ability to meet the expectations of a variety of partners, while continuing its commitment to the vitality of the art scene. In September 2012, in partnership with the Fondation Ricard, Marc Bembekoff’s The Mystery Spot project provided an opportunity to further “carte blanche” initiatives, stressing how important it is for the CNAP to turn to outside viewpoints, especially from independent exhibition curators, to promote this collection.

CO-PRODUCTION OF MAJOR EVENTS
The CNAP co-produced the events of the Ministry of Culture and Communications, including Monumenta’s fifth year and La Triennale, Intense Proximité.  The two events were visited by over 460,000 people, confirming their popular success.
