Sasha Pevak
Sasha Pevak identifies as an interdependent art worker and Eastern European queer. Their practice is rooted in displacement, a certain cultural memory of the socialist past and the history of their family, subject to various forms of forced mobility, and their experience as an Eastern European in the ‘West’. Informed by postcolonial and queer theory, and decolonial approaches, it is also a daily practice of recollection, remembering, and decolonisation. In 2022-2023, Sasha Pevak was a curatorial research fellow at the National Center for Fine Arts (Cnap) in France. They collaborated with le Centre Pompidou, la Cité internationale des arts, Galerie Poggi, and la FIAC in Paris, Mudam Luxembourg, Triangle-Astérides in Marseille, Capc Museum in Bordeaux, Lviv Municipal Art Center, Pickle Bar by Slavs and Tatars in Berlin, and others. They were laureate of ‘Résidences Sur Mesure Plus+’ by l’Institut français in 2021, curator-in-residence in Vilnius in the frame of a program by the Lithuanian Culture Institute in 2022, researcher-in-residence at the Institut national d’histoire de l’art in Paris in 2019. In 2020, Sasha Pevak initiated Curatorial hotline, and in 2021, cofounded the collective Beyond the post-soviet.
Sasha Pevak s'identifie en tant que travailleur·se de l’art interdépendant·e et un·e Européen·ne de l’Est queer. Sa pratique s'enracine dans le déplacement, une certaine mémoire culturelle du passé socialiste et l'histoire de sa famille, soumise à diverses formes de mobilité forcée, ainsi que dans son expérience d'Européen·ne de l'Est en « Occident ». Informée par la théorie postcoloniale et queer et les approches décoloniales, c'est aussi une pratique quotidienne de remémoration, de remémorisation et de décolonisation. En 2022-2023, Sasha Pevak a bénéficié d’une bourse de recherche curatoriale au sein du Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap). Iel a collaboré avec le Centre Pompidou, la Cité internationale des arts, Galerie Poggi et la FIAC à Paris, Mudam Luxembourg, Triangle-Astérides à Marseille, le Capc à Bordeaux, Lviv Municipal Art Center, Pickle Bar by Slavs and Tatars à Berlin, entre autres.
