Véronique VIENNE

Véronique Vienne est l’auteur de plus d’une centaine d’articles et d’essais en français et en anglais sur le graphisme, le design, l’architecture, la photographie et la communication. Ses écrits ont été publiés dans des magazines spécialisés tels que House&Garden, Emigre, Communication Arts, Eye, Graphis, Aperture, Metropolis, étapes:, Print, etc. Elle a aussi édité de nombreux livres, en particulier Citizen Designer et The Education of an Art Director (Alworth Press, 2003 et 2006), avec Steven Heller.
Au cours de sa carrière dans l’édition, elle a été directrice artistique et rédactrice en chef de magazines à grand tirage aux États-Unis (San Francisco Magazine, West, Image, Parenting, Self, Mode). Elle est aussi l’auteur de livres d’intérêt général, parmi lesquels The Art of Doing Nothing, traduit en dix langues. Entre 1999 et 2010, elle a été membre du corps enseignant de la School of Visual Arts (SVA) à New York, dans le graduate programme, dans la section « Design as Entrepreneur ».
Elle est correspondante en France du blog américain Design Observer. Son prochain livre, en collaboration avec Steven Heller, est un état des lieux de la profession de graphiste à l’ère numérique.Depuis 2009, elle donne des cours sur la critique des arts graphiques, l’image d’entreprise, et le design éditorial à Paris College of Arts (PCA) et à l’ESA de Lorient en Bretagne. Elle est aussi formatrice pour de nombreux cours de formation sur la culture générale et l’histoire du graphisme chez Pyramyd à Paris.

Biography
Véronique Vienne has written over a hundred articles and essays on graphic design, design, architecture, photography and communication, in both English and French, published in specialist magazines like House & Garden, Emigre, Communication Arts, Eye, Graphis, Aperture, Metropolis, étapes: and Print. She has also edited many books, notably Citizen Designer and The Education of an Art Director (Alworth Press, 2003 and 2006), with Steven Heller.
During her career she has worked as art director and editor-in-chief for several large circulation American magazines (San Francisco Magazine, West, Image, Parenting, Self, Mode). She has also written a number of general interest books, including The Art of Doing Nothing, which has been translated into ten languages. From 1999 to 2010, she was a member of the teaching staff at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York, in the “Design as Entrepreneur” section of the graduate programme.
She is the French correspondent for the American blog Design Observer. Her forthcoming book, written in collaboration with Steven Heller, examines the graphic design profession in the digital era. Since 2009, she has lectured on graphic design criticism, the corporate image, and editorial design at the Paris College of Arts (PCA) and the École Supérieure d’Art in Lorient, Brittany. She also teaches general culture and design history at Pyramyd in Paris.
