John CORNU

Artiste français né en 1976, John Cornu propose une esthétique héritée du minimalisme et du modernisme (monochromie, sérialité, modularité) tout en convoquant un rapport fort au contexte (contexte historique, architectural, sociétal) et une forme de romantisme contemporain (prédisposition à l’usure, à la cécité, à la violence et à la destruction).

S’intéressant à des thèmes comme la ruine moderne, les systèmes coercitifs, les logiques de pouvoir ou encore le passage du temps, l’artiste instaure dans ses productions une atmosphère à la fois poétique et sans concession.

Qu’elles soient sculpturales, performatives, ou encore installatives, ces dernières métissent un ensemble de forces paradoxales, et induisent une multiplicité de sens, de lectures.

John Cornu is a French artist, born in 1976, who proposes an aesthetics inherited from Minimalism and modernism (monochromes, seriality, modularity), while at the same time involving a strong relation to the context (historical, architectural, societal) and a form of contemporary romanticism (a predisposition for wear and tear, blindness, violence and destruction).
With his interest in themes such as the modern ruin, coercive systems, logical systems of power, and the passage of time, the artist introduces into his works an atmosphere that is at once poetic and uncompromising.
Be they sculptural, or involving performance or installation, these latter interweave a set of paradoxical sources, and involve a whole host of meanings and readings.
