Influencé par l’écrivain Robert Walser, par les films de Georges Méliès et par l’esthétique des avant-gardes russes du début du XXe siècle, l’artiste suisse Klaus Lutz a réalisé une vingtaine de films en 16mm dans un studio minuscule aménagé dans son appartement new yorkais. Vertigineux de virtuosité et de précision dans leur bricolage, ses films évoquent le retrait du monde (généralement filmé depuis la fenêtre de l’appartement de l’artiste), et la fuite onirique dans un univers intérieur, laboratoire où ont lieu des expériences étranges, cosmos sans limite de l’imaginaire.
L’œuvre de Klaus Lutz a été présentée à l’occasion d’expositions monographiques au Museum Haus Konstruktiv (Zürich), à la galerie Rotwand (Zürich), à Exile (Berlin) et à l’espace The Kitchen (New York). Elle a également été présentée lors d’expositions collectives à la Bibliothèque Nationale Suisse (Berne) et au Kunstverein de Göttingen.
