The CNAP renewed its partnership with Paris Photo for the fair’s 2022 edition, held from 10 to 13 November at the Grand Palais Ephémère. There, an exhibition presented a selection of works from the ‘Image 3.0’ National Photographic Commission, launched by the CNAP in collaboration with the Jeu de Paume national gallery.

This unique ensemble presented the productions of four artists reflecting upon new photographic means of expression: Simon Brodbeck & Lucie de Barbuat, Philippe Durand and Hanako Murakami. Each artist explores innovative digital photography techniques, to push the ontological envelope of photographic imagery.

Through these projects, a dialogue developed between traditional photographic techniques and new technologies. The images by Brodbeck & de Barbuat incorporate analog and digital processes alongside 3D computer modelling and scanning, while Philippe Durand utilizes a unique system of 2.5D photographic printing in bas-relief, and the optical sensors of Hanako Murakami’s works render their observers active participants in the artistic process.

This selection thus offers a contemporary contemplation of photographic processes and the manner in which they’re experienced.

About the ‘Image 3.0’ commissioned photos

At the crossroads of art and new technology, the ‘Image 3.0’ exhibition was first presented at Le Cellier in Reims, in partnership with the Jeu de Paume, from 20 May to 4 September 2022, assembling never-before-exhibited works by the 17 nationally commissioned artists.

The body of ‘Image 3.0’ works was constituted so as to allow for a travelling exhibition showcasing creations employing the new languages, creative processes and final forms of contemporary imagery. Thus, following Le Cellier in Reims and Paris Photo in the French capital, the photographic productions by Donatien Aubert, Grégory Chatonsky, Hanako Murakami, Justine Emard, Mustapha Azeroual, Noémie Goudal, Philippe Durand and Brodbeck & de Barbuat will be presented at the Serendipity Arts Festival held from 15 to 23 December 2022 in Goa, India.

At Paris Photo, a video clip presented visitors with the entire commissioned corpus exhibited in Reims during the summer.
