Grant amount: €10,000 for development / €15,000 for post-production

Presentation

The Centre National des Arts Plastiques provides grant assistance for the development or post-production of audio-visual projects linking the realms of cinema and the fine arts and lying outside the film industry.

Eligibility criteria

This grant programme concerns audio-visual productions with a total budget of between €20,000 and €300,000. It targets production houses fully committed to supporting new forms of cinematography, both documentaries and fictions.

Productions supported by this programme must belong to the French art scene: the artist must be a French national or resident and/or the production house must be established in France. Funded productions must be the subject of public screenings, notably in France (festivals, museums, art centres, etc.), and include French subtitles when necessary.

Applying structures:
Must have film production explicitly included within their statutes.
- Must guarantee optimal conditions for the production, distribution and promotion of their films.
- Must not benefit from recurrent operating grants provided by the French State or by any local or regional authorities, whether French or foreign.

The CNAP only provides development and post-production support; it cannot support the film shooting phase. Applicants for post-production support must furnish a draft or pre-edited version of the film. A project having benefitted from a development grant one year may apply for a post-production grant another year.

This grant programme cannot contribute to:
Funding projects already submitted to the committee, including projects in development and regardless of the degree to which the project has since been modified.
- All French State funding accounting for over 50% of the estimated overall project cost.
- Funding projects benefitting from over 50% prefunding by a television station/network.
- Producing multiples.

Application dossiers are studied by a committee that meets once a year and bases its judgements upon the following criteria:
- The innovative nature of the artist’s writing and imagined treatment of the subject.
- The project’s coherence with the missions of the Centre National des Arts Plastiques.
- The coherence of the proposed budget and funding plan.
- The pertinence of the proposed distribution (art centres, museums, festivals, etc.).
