Biographie

Né en 1982. Vit et travaille à Toulouse.

Composée essentiellement de photographies et vidéos, la pratique de Gaël Bonnefon prend la forme d’installations (projections vidéo, accrochages accompagnés de bandes son…) ou d’éditions (livres monographiques).
Les différents modes d’apparition de ses photographies répondent à autant de manières de lire les images et le quotidien, qui s’impose en tant que sujet récurrent dans la globalité de sa production. Ce monde ordinaire, paysages et portraits où le corps occupe une place décisive, se manifeste à travers une forme de transfiguration et d’ambivalence, fruit de l’implication rigoureuse de l’artiste auprès de ses sujets.
Les fragments de cette narration se constituent à partir de l’observation méticuleuse du réel opérée par l’artiste, qui traque le détail, capte les atmosphères, construit des visions et suscite l’émerveillement, dans une expression « sensible tout à la fois impulsive et maîtrisée ».

Gaël Bonnefon est accompagné par Documents d’artistes Occitanie depuis 2021.

Gaël Bonnefon’s practice mainly revolves around photography and video, and comes in the form of installations (video projections, artwork presented with soundtracks…) or publications (monographs).
The various ways in which his photographs manifest relate to as many ways of interpreting images and everyday life, which happen to be a recurring subject in his entire production. This ordinary world, these landscapes and portraits in which the body occupies a significant position, manifest through a form of transfiguration and ambivalence – the result of the artist’s thorough involvement with the subjects of his photographs.
The fragments of this narration are shaped through the artist’s meticulous observation of reality, in which he hunts for details, captures atmospheres, builds visions and sparks amazement with a form of expression that is “at once sensitive, impulsive and controlled”.
