« Pour Sylvie Sauvageon, dessiner c’est le plus souvent « refaire » avec des crayons ce qu’elle voit, soit transposer plutôt que copier servilement un objet, un espace, ou une image. Autrement dit, le dessin n’est pas ici un moyen d’inventer des formes, mais plutôt de les répertorier, redoublant par la ligne et la surface l’aspect perçu de la réalité qui l’environne, et plus précisément encore de la réalité qui la regarde, car les sujets auxquels s’attelle Sylvie Sauvageon sont choisis moins pour leur qualité d’objet que pour la relation particulière qu’elle entretient avec eux. « Tout mon travail est lié à mon rapport au monde (le temps et la taille principalement) », indique Sylvie Sauvageon (entretien avec Anne-Cécile Guitard, 2012), avant d’ajouter « Pour pouvoir savoir et comprendre où se situent les autres j'ai besoin de m'approprier l'apparence des choses, les images (communes ou personnelles) et de les reproduire. […] Comme si le dessin devenait la preuve de l'existence. » Dessiner n’est donc pas seulement saisir graphiquement mais c’est se saisir physiquement de ce catalogue intime qu’elle a choisi de compiler. Le dessin s’est imposé comme un outil de mise à distance de la réalité environnante. […]  Ravivant ces lieux et ces moments par le dessin, c'est à une étrange enquête sur la mémoire des formes et des signes que se livre Sylvie Sauvageon, sa mémoire personnelle aussi bien que la nôtre, recomposant peu à peu le puzzle d'une histoire intime et pourtant collective. Ce n'est pourtant pas à proprement parler de nostalgie dont il s'agit ici, mais plutôt d'un travail de remémoration interrogeant le passé au présent ou ce qui du passé fait son présent. Le temps du dessin, s'il ne cherche pas à produire d'explication, lui permet, fouissant ces signes, de mesurer cet écart qui la constitue. Dessiner pour s'enraciner. » […]

"For Sylvie Sauvageon, drawing usually means “remaking” what she sees with pencils; that is, transposing, rather than slavishly copying, an object, a space, or an image. In other words, drawing is not a way of inventing forms, but rather of indexing them by using lines and surfaces to duplicate the perceived aspect of the reality that surrounds her, or more specifically of the reality that observes her; indeed, Sylvie Sauvageon chooses her subjects less for their quality as objects than for the particular connection she has with them. In the artist’s own words, “My whole work is based on my relationship to the world (mainly in terms of time and size). In order to know and understand where others stand, I need to make the appearance of things and images (shared or personal) my own and to reproduce it. […] As if drawing became the proof of their existence.” (Interview with Anne-Cécile Guitard, 2012) Therefore, drawing is not only the process of capturing with pictures, but also of physically capturing the intimate collection the artist has put together. Drawing became her method of choice to keep the reality around her at a distance. […] By reviving these times and places through drawing, Sylvie Sauvageon engages in a strange study of the memory of forms and signs, letting her own memory and ours gradually reconstruct the puzzle of a story both intimate and collective. However, the subject here isn’t strictly speaking nostalgia, but a recollective work that questions the past in the present, or the past elements that make up the artist’s present. While the time she spends drawing is not meant to provide any explanation, it does, however, allow her to measure the gap that constitutes it by delving into these signs.
