Visual Arts Acquisitions and Commissions 2017 - Session 1

June 2017

The Cnap's Consultative Committee in charge of purchasing visual art works met on May 31 and June 1, 2017. The committee has a budget of €451,765 and agreed on the acquisition of 43 works by 23 artists or groups of artists.

Some 11 artists made their entry into the Fonds national d’art contemporain (French national contemporary art collection), a national collection that the Cnap adds to, conserves and circulates. The commission proved its willingness to look to the future in France through Anne Bourse, Claude Cattelain, Chourouk Hriech and Patrick Loughran, and abroad with Vanessa Billy, Adriana Minoliti and Ola Vasiljeva.

The variety of processes and means of expression - installations, painting, artists' books and formal works - show that the collection is open to all fields of contemporary creation. Davide Balula and Gregory Buchert were selected to develop the specific corpus of performance works.

The acquisition of pieces by Julien Audebert, Ingrid Luche and Lili Reynaud Dewar is proof of the close eye being kept on the French scene and strengthens the presence of these artists in public collections.

On the international front, the purchase of emblematic works by Caroline Achaintre, Clemens Von Wedemeyer, Ana Jotta and Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven reflects a desire to better represent these artists who are rarely, if ever, to be found in French institutions.

Pieces by Ronald Corneliessen, Esther Ferrer, Philippe Mayaux and Laurence Wiener enhance and update the existing monographic ensembles.

These works are destined to be loaned and placed in cultural institutions in France and abroad.
