Visual Arts Commission 2013 - 2nd session

The advisory commission of the Centre national des arts plastiques responsible for artwork acquisition (painting, sculpture, graphic arts) met on 18 October 2013. The committee had a budget of €500,000 and acquired 35 artworks from 18 artists or artist groups.

Prospecting and attention to emerging creative work remains this commission’s priority. 12 of the selected artists appeared in these collections for the first time: Dara Friedman, Ian Wilson, Kati Heck, Société Réaliste, Agnès Geoffray, Audrey Nervi, Vincent Mauger, Annie Vigier & Franck Apertet (Les gens d’Uterpanà) etc.

The diversity the fine arts offers is found in the selection which creates or completes units, with several acquisitions made at the same time: two videos by Artur Zmijevski, a sculpture and a drawings installation by Alice Creischer, a triptych of drawings and an installation by Marie Cool & Fabio Balducci, five sculptures by Joao Gusmao & Pedro Paiva and five pieces by Fernanda Gomez selected from his current exhibition in Vassivières.

Further, the commission has acquired three protocolic artworks by Vera Molnar, representative of a lesser-known part of her work, and an emblematic Patrick Van Caeckenbergh piece intended for permanent loan to the Musée Gassendi in Digne.

These acquisitions reflect a policy giving priority to young artists upcoming on the French scene. These artworks are to be on permanent or short-term loan to cultural institutions in France or abroad.
