A geography of the photographic gesture from some of the Centre national des arts plastiques's major works.

On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the creation of the Fonds Régionaux d'Art Contemporain (FRACs, i.e. Regional Contemporary Art Collections), the CNAP and FRAC Auvergne have partnered to produce an outstanding exhibition that brings together over 90 works from the CNAP's photography collection.

The itinerary of this exhibition endeavors to address the various statuses of the photographic image, from its documentary dimension to its fictional use. This itinerary will bring to light both historical and emerging artists. Based on a set of concepts borrowed from ocular physiology (fovea, macula, lens, etc.), the exhibition will also use symbolism and poetry to explore the various features of the photographic eye in its ability to perceive the world.

Bound by a common history, the FRACs and the CNAP are committed to the most innovative and ambitious projects involving the French art scene in France and abroad. They thus share common expertise and values, placing all their focus on artists and advocating a policy that encourages experimentation and risk-taking. The CNAP thus engages in numerous collaborations and brings in many outside perspectives on its collection, which it seeks to disseminate across all territories.

The FRAC Auvergne now relies on a collection of almost 500 high-level artworks to maximize public awareness of contemporary creation and to establish partnerships. In the last few years, its collection has moved from a focus on painting to issues related to the status of the image. After this exhibition, a large proportion of the works displayed will remain on long-term loan at FRAC Auvergne, thus adding to its collection.
